Giving Back

Together with many of the trades and vendors that we work with on a regular basis we decided to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

Homeward Bound is an incredible program in Toronto that offers housing for women and children in challenging situations. It provides financial and emotional support for these women while they are in the process of getting an education and making an effort to move towards independence.

Over a six month period, we transformed the community room into a space that can be used by the women and children to help foster that sense of community that Homeward Bound Strives for. The room was outfitted with a brand new kitchen including appliances, a play area for kids with TV’s and  shelves that fully stocked with games and toys. Everything was donated by the amazing group of people and companies that we work with.

Why not? Giving back to the community whenever we can  is one of the core principles at Stacey Cohen Design. We believe that our physical environments impact how we feel and dictate how we function. We hope that having this space will provide comfort and a sense of community as well as act as a place where the women and children of Homeward Bound can build memories together to makes their journeys a little bit easier.

We want to recognize all of the incredible people that donated many days of hard work and materials to make this transformation happen. Your constant enthusiasm and participation in the homeward bound program means the world to us! As a team, we walked into this experience wanting to give back. Walking away, however, we got so much more than we gave as we got to witness firsthand the abundant amount of generosity, support and gratitude from all who donated. Thank you to everyone involved in the Homeward Bound Program, this experience has truly made us a better and stronger team!

Three easy solutions to transform your unused dining table

http://www.staceycohendesign.com/

The dining table; thought of as a place to retreat for dinners and gathering’s with friends and family is often set for those special occasions, with dinnerware and glassware that compliment the season or event. However, when not being used to entertain you can use this unused space to create a cohesive look that amplifies your space and design cred.

For everyday use, we have created three looks that are versatile and change with the seasons and provide that missing flare, which would otherwise be bare.

Go Bold with Drama

Ash Candle Holder Collection ELTE
Mixing shapes, like these sculptural abstract candle-holders create a legato like rhythm that connect the space with no intervening silence.

Go Symmetrical with florals

Test Tube Vase Set ZARA Home

Through-out the year add seasonal flowers arranged diagonally across the table. Do not interrupt the flow of our lives; create balance by placing two extended groupings centered directly beneath your light fixture.

Go High and Eclectic

Gold Aureate Pots ANTHROPOLOGIE

Add height and nature to your space with an eclectic gathering of your favorite pieces. Use the rule of three. Create a full look by balancing the room adding more pillows to the opposite side in which you place your arrangement.

Fall 2017 Wardrobe Essentials from TNT Toronto

TNT The Next Trend

From Carrie Bradshaw’s couture walk in closet, to The Coveteur covering closets of global street style stars and influencers to purchasing a new home/renovating the space you have… let’s all agree that the closet has become the new destination in our homes.
Walk in closet by Stacey Cohen Design
With our latest newsletter showcasing a walk-in closet complete with a large tufted ottoman and space for you and your closest friends to spend time while getting ready for a night out, it only seems fitting (pun intended) to call on TNT Toronto who boastfully “cater to the closet” for a few tips on FW17 (TNT is an extension of a stylish closet, both in mindset and design thanks to its fashion-forward salespeople/stylists who offer bespoke advice in-store as well as personal wardrobe consultations).
Layering is essential for fall, keeping warm and comfortable while making a statement with texture is key. TNT has a wide selection of knitwear pieces with bold eye catching designs that cater to the fashion forward. Nude; the Italian brand for luxury knitwear, delivers on statement jumpers, cable knits and autumn must-have’s like this yellow and black wool blend two-tone patterned sweater and mustard yellow metallic knitted jumper that lusters in the sunlight and exudes feminine opulence. Another favorite for FW17 is this multicolored wool-mohair blend knitted jumper from Chloé featuring a ribbed stand up collar. Pair these pieces with your favorite jeans and layer with jewel toned scarves and classic footwear with on-trend embellishments.
A go-to grab in any closet, jean wear continues to dominate the fast paced lifestyle of young professionals. TNT boasts a wide range of brands with different aesthetics. One theme in particular is length. A perfect cut right above the ankle is flattering on any body type. This cropped style of jean has a diverse compatibility with foot-wear including lace-up’s, chunky heels or a classic derby in any material or color. Pictured below from left to right – Dsquared Boyfriend jean, Simon Miller cropped wide leg jean and Moussy distressed cropped jean.
Canadian Autumn to fashion aficionados is the best time of year. As colder weather approaches, an added layer is brought into the mix. This fall - deconstructed classics will dominate the Toronto locale; outerwear at it’s finest. Stand out this year in fashion’s biggest risk takers like Comme des Garcon, Noir Kei Ninomiya and Junya Wantanabe. Pictured below CDG deconstructed blazer, Junya Wantanabe patchwork sleeves coat and Noir Kei Ninomiya’s faux fur and leather jacket.

Thank you to our friends over at TNT for all of their fashion inspiration and expertise!

Setting The Bar

SEE FULL IMAGE GALLERY HERE

MIRRORED TRAY
Style your bar with a mirrored tray and layer on the glassware. This creates dimension and adds a focal point within the setting.

ICE BUCKET
An ice bucket doubles as function and style. Elevate your bar by selecting a bucket with intricate handles and trim detailing to store or chill your champagne.

STEMLESS GLASSES
When choosing stemless glasses, combine textures with printed and solid designs for a layered and diverse look.

FLUTES
Group your glassware on either side of your bar to create balance. Flutes are great for height and colour.
